Welcome from the Director
Welcome to the Hamline Law Library, an integral part of the Hamline University School of Law. The library's primary purpose is to support the research and curricular needs of the Hamline Law School faculty, students and staff. In addition, our collections and services are available to the greater Hamline University community, alumni, the legal community, and the public. We encourage you to use our many resources, including staff expertise, extensive print and electronic collections, computer facilities and wireless network, and comfortable research and study spaces.
Our highly skilled and friendly staff will help you identify the information you need and connect you with that information. To this end, we provide many services, such as acquiring and organizing library material, providing research instruction and assistance, searching databases, helping you locate material on our shelves, lending books from our collection, and obtaining material through interlibrary loan. The library's reference librarians hold J.D. degrees, and some of them have practiced law. They easily relate to the law school experience as well as the demanding nature of legal practice. They are expert research consultants who can help you develop efficient research strategies and who will direct you to the best resources available. Please take advantage of the many services we have to offer, and do not hesitate to ask for assistance!
The Law Library holds and provides access to a wealth of legal information resources. Our physical collection consists of over 275,000 volumes focusing primarily on American law and interdisciplinary topics. In addition to print resources, the library subscribes to numerous electronic resources allowing users to access material within the library or from remote locations. Through our relationship with Hamline University's Bush Library and as a member of the Cooperating Libraries in Consortium (CLIC), the Law Library also is able to provide timely access to a broad range of non-legal material.
I hope you will explore the many resources available to you by taking full advantage of this website and by visiting us in person. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome, and I encourage you to contact me personally to share them!
